Fiber Bench privacy policy

Last updated 25 October 2026. Applies to the Fiber Bench app for Android, iPhone and iPad (com.jdcap.fiberbench).

The short version

Fiber Bench does not collect, store, share or sell any personal information. Everything you make stays on your device.

What the app stores

Your patterns, your progress through them, your settings and how many free uses of each Pro feature you have left are saved in the app's own storage on your device, with a safety copy in the app's own private files so that nothing is lost if the system clears that storage. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else. If you uninstall the app, it is deleted with it. If your device backs up app data (to your Google account on Android, or to iCloud on an iPhone or iPad), the system may include this data in that backup; that is handled by Google or Apple under your account settings, not by Fiber Bench.

Photos

When you turn a photo into a pattern, you choose the picture yourself, or take one with the camera if you choose to. The app reads it on your device to work out the colors and does not upload it or keep a copy. Only the resulting pattern is saved. How many of your own photos you have turned into patterns is kept in the app's storage on your device, like your patterns. The app asks for the camera or your photos only when you pick a picture, and saves to your photos only when you choose to save a shared picture there.

Buying Pro and pattern packs

Fiber Bench Pro and the pattern packs are bought through your device's app store: Google Play on Android, the App Store on an iPhone or iPad. The store handles the payment and keeps the record of each purchase under your account, as described in its own privacy policy. The app asks the store on your device which of them your account owns, and keeps a copy of that answer so they work offline. The patterns in every pack are already inside the app, so nothing is downloaded when you buy one. The app never sees your payment details, your name or your email address.

Reading steps aloud

In hands-free mode the app can read each step aloud. It does this with the text-to-speech service built into your device, using a voice that runs on the device where there is one: the words of the step, such as "Turn all cards forward", are passed to that service on your device. Fiber Bench does not send them anywhere itself. You can turn reading aloud off in Settings.

Voice commands and the microphone

Voice commands are off until you switch them on in Settings, under Accessibility; the app asks for the microphone (and, on an iPhone or iPad, for speech recognition) only then. While the Make tab or hands-free mode is open, the app listens for a few words, such as "next" and "back", using the speech recognition built into your device, which works on the device without the internet. Fiber Bench only uses this on-device recognition: on a device without it, voice commands stay off rather than send audio anywhere. No audio is recorded, kept or sent anywhere, and the words heard are used only to move through the pattern. Switching voice commands off, leaving those screens, or leaving the app stops the listening, and you can remove the microphone permission in your device's settings at any time.

Sharing

When you tap a share button, the app hands a picture, text or file to your device's share menu. Where it goes from there is your choice, and is covered by the privacy terms of the app you share to.

Printing

When you print a pattern, the app makes a PDF on your device and hands it to the system's print screen. It goes to the printer, or the PDF file, that you choose there, and is covered by that print service's own terms. Fiber Bench does not send it anywhere itself.

Feedback and error reports

Settings has a Send feedback button, and if the app ever stops with an error it offers to email the details. The first time a free use of a Pro feature runs out, the app also asks, once, what would make Pro worth it, with a button to write an email. Each of these opens your own email app with a message already started; nothing is sent unless you send it. The message includes the app version, the device model (when the system makes it available to the app), the system version and the screen size, and an error report adds the error and which screen it happened on. It does not include your patterns. If you send it, we use it only to answer you and fix the app.

No accounts, ads or tracking

There is no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics and no crash-reporting service. Apart from asking the app store about purchases, the app makes no network connections and works without an internet connection.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date.
