Notices, credits & licences

Lunaria computes the Moon itself, on the device. It stands on public scientific data, open fonts and open-source software. Each is listed here with its licence.

Not affiliated

Lunaria is an independent product of CosNFX. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by NASA, the U.S. Geological Survey, the International Astronomical Union, JPL, the U.S. Naval Observatory, NOAA, LilyGo or Espressif. Their data and names appear here only to credit sources.

Astronomy

All astronomy runs on the device, from published methods: the Moon from the main terms of Chapront's ELP-2000/82, the Sun from Bretagnon & Francou's VSOP87 (both as tabulated in Jean Meeus, Astronomical Algorithms), nutation, libration and phase from Meeus, ΔT from Espenak & Meeus (NASA). It is checked during development against JPL Horizons, NASA's lunar eclipse catalogue (Espenak & Meeus), the U.S. Naval Observatory and NOAA tide predictions. None of those services is used by the device itself.

Fonts

The device carries pre-rendered glyphs of these fonts. The full licence text is at openfontlicense.org.

Privacy

Lunaria has no account and no cloud. On your Wi-Fi it asks for two things only: the time (network time servers) and your approximate location, from your internet address, answered by CosNFX's own server (cosnfx.store/lunaria/geo), which keeps no log of the request. Location is used for your time zone, moonrise and moonset, where the Moon is in your sky, eclipse visibility and evening auto-dim. Prefer not to? Choose Manual location in the settings and type it in: then nothing is looked up at all. Nothing about you or your use of Lunaria is sent anywhere else.

Location data

IP Geolocation by DB-IP (IP to City Lite, Creative Commons Attribution 4.0) and GeoNames (time zones, Creative Commons Attribution 4.0), served by CosNFX.
